A LIFESTYLE BABY PHOTO SESSION AT HOME

When you think of a baby photoshoot, you might picture those sleepy, curled-up newborn photographs taken within the first couple of weeks. And while newborn sessions are beautiful, there’s absolutely no rule that says your baby has to be tiny and sleepy for their photoshoot!

As a family photographer in Hampshire, I often hear parents say, “We missed the newborn stage, is it too late?” The answer is a big no!

In fact, there are so many wonderful stages throughout your baby’s first year that make gorgeous opportunities for photographs.

Your baby changes so quickly

Those first few months are full of tiny details that you’ll want to remember. Their expressions, little smiles, chubby cheeks, curious eyes and the way they fit perfectly into your arms.

At around 3–6 months, you may start seeing those gorgeous smiles and interactions. A little later, your baby might be sitting, reaching, giggling and really showing their personality. These stages can make for wonderfully natural and joyful photographs.

You don’t need to have a ‘perfect’ session

One of my favourite things about photographing older babies is that we can simply follow their lead.

If they want cuddles, we have cuddles. If they want to explore, we let them explore. If they need a feed or a break, that’s completely fine too.

The aim isn’t to make your baby behave a certain way for the camera. It’s about capturing them as they are right now and the connection you share with them.

There is no ‘right’ age

Whether your baby is two weeks, four months, eight months or nearly one, you haven’t missed your chance.

Your baby is only this age once, and there will always be something special about capturing this particular chapter of your family’s story.

So, if you’re sitting there thinking, “We should have booked a newborn shoot…”, don’t worry.

You haven’t missed it.
